My goal has always been to serve the people of Eastern Washington, but with the birth of my daughter, I decided that a year of campaigning across the vast expanse of our newly formed 4th District, away from her and my wife Erika, would betray the family values that I hold dear, and that you’ve come to expect of me, as your future Representative. Working at the state level will allow me to balance time with my family and serving my community.
There are a number of reasons that I chose this fight. Among them, continued unemployment rates, senseless partisanship, and the inability of our state government to prioritize public education. We must, also, prioritize the creation of jobs by supporting small business, investing in our aging infrastructure, and identifying and eliminating the taxes, senseless tax breaks, and regulations that may no longer be effective, waste resources, or limit our growth.
I will continue to fight for manufacturing jobs, will be an advocate for our wine industry, nationally and abroad, and will fight to ensure that public education funding is a priority, and that our students and teachers receive the respect and resources that they need and deserve from their State Government.
I know this will be a tough race, but now is the time for leadership. My opponent’s record is consistently lackluster, and I am ready to lead.
Representative Klippert has had several years to bring new jobs to our area and create a better business climate. It hasn’t happened. It’s clear we need new leadership on job creation and a legislator who will constructively represent our interests in Olympia, instead of engaging in unproductive partisan bickering and grandstanding.
I hope you can see the advantage of having an elected official in Olympia, that knows you well, understands the challenges that Eastern Washington families struggle with everyday, and will pick up the phone when you call, or get you a cup of coffee when you visit me in Olympia.
While you’re here, please look around, sign up to volunteer, and please give what you can. This election is about us all. Our families, our jobs, and our future. Please join me, in bringing our voice to Olympia.
In Solidarity,
Jay Clough(D)
Candidate for WA 8th LD
